MONROE - Four people were arrested Saturday after they tried to cash a stolen check at Wal-Mart.

Carson A. Caizzo and Courtney R. Kennedy, both 18 and both from Edina, Minn.; Morgan K. Azbill, 18, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Kassie M. McMahon, 17, West St. Paul, Minn., were charged with several counts of forgery, theft by false representation and possession of stolen property.

They were jailed pending court.

At about 1 p.m., Monroe Police responded to a report of suspicious activity at Wal-Mart.

According to Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley, four people checking out were asked for identification in order to pass a check. They told the store clerk their identification was in a vehicle. They left the store and didn't return.

Officers contacted the person whose name was on the check and found several checks were stolen from her at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. The person on the check wasn't from Monroe.

About two hours after police began their investigation they saw a vehicle that matched the description of the one used by the four people at Wal-Mart. Two females, Kennedy and McMahon, were taken into custody. Kelley said stolen checks and stolen property were found inside the vehicle.

Monroe Police officers learned the other two people were at a motel in New Glarus. They were arrested with help from the New Glarus Police Department.

Azbill was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The four tried to cash one check in Monroe but Kelley said his department is working with the Tomah Police Department and with police departments in Minnesota to determine if the teens purchased other merchandise with the stolen checks.
