MONROE - Four people arrested for cashing stolen checks in Monroe and New Glarus made their initial appearances Monday in Green County Circuit Court.

All four remain free on signature bonds and are scheduled for preliminary hearings July 16.

Carson A. Caizzo and Courtney R. Kennedy, both 18 and both from Edina, Minn.; Morgan K. Azbill, 18, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Kassie M. McMahon, 17, West St. Paul, Minn., were charged with several counts of forgery and concealing stolen property.

Court records allege they cashed stolen checks at Kwik Trip, Dick's Piggly and Wal-Mart in Monroe and also at the Swiss Aire Motel in New Glarus Saturday.

Kennedy and McMahon had stolen checks and an iPod in their vehicle when they were taken into custody. Caizzo and Azbill had marijuana in their possession when they were taken into custody in New Glarus.

McMahon and Kennedy are charged with four counts of forgery, all class H felonies, and concealing stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. They face more than 24 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines, if convicted.

They remains free on a $4,000 signature bond.

Caizzo and Azbill are charged with two counts of forgery, both class H felonies, two counts of concealing stolen property, both class A misdemeanors, and possession of marijuana, an unclassified misdemeanor. They face up to 14 years in prison and more than $40,000 in fines, if convicted.

They remain free on a $2,500 signature bond.

The Monroe Police Department investigated a report of suspicious activity at Wal-Mart Saturday and learned the four left when asked for identification to cash a check.

Officers learned the person whose name was on the check had the checks stolen from her at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. The owner of the checks is not from Monroe.

Kennedy and McMahon were arrested in Monroe and Caizzo and Azbill were arrested in New Glarus a short time later.
