Charter offering phone service locally

MONROE - Charter Communications now offers phone service to Monroe and Albany residents.

Bob Pinter, government relations administrator, said the service is available to anyone who can get Charter television services. If a house is able to receive cable television services, it can receive telephone services.

Pinter would not say how many people have signed up for the service.

The telephone service provides unlimited nation-wide calling; features such as call waiting, caller identification, call forwarding and voice mail at no additional charge.

Pinter said new customers will be able to keep their phone numbers. There is no charge for installation.

Over the past year, Charter has invested over $1 billion to enhance its capabilities.

Washa said another positive aspect for people is that they will have their Internet and phone service on one bill.
