MONROE - John Paul Mitchell Systems, recognized globally for their professional hair care products and salons, is entering the Monroe market.

Paul Mitchell The School-Monroe will officially open this summer.

The Paul Mitchell Schools acquired the Four Seasons Salon and Day Spa on Fourth Avenue West in Monroe on March 27.

Students Edie Minkie of Lena, Shana Arnsmeier of Monroe, and Rebekah Paulson of Brodhead talked excitedly about the change over on Thursday at the school.

"There will be money to bring in new stuff - including two color lines, American and European," Arnsmeier said.

The school owners, John Paul Mitchell systems Chief Executive Officer John Paul Dejoria and Dean Winn Claybaugh of Paul Mitchell Schools, together with Susan Papageorgio and Molly Quirk, will be planning grand opening festivities in the next few months.

Right now, only European color formulations are used at the school; students at the school said the American line requires more calculations of formula mixing.

"We'll have a color bar," Paulson added. In the Paul Mitchell salons, color mixing in done out front in public, she said.

"You can't get nervous when you're mixing then," Arnsmeier said, laughing.

Colette Walters, Browntown, who has been teaching at the Four Seasons for a year and a half, and Denise Eiehstadt, Monroe, who will be certified to teach in May, will remain at the Paul Mitchell School. Amy Campbell will also remain on staff, overseeing the front desk and product sales.

Walters said the new school will eventually be able to handle 50 students at one time. Right now the school takes 9.

Client hours will increase as well at the school because of the extra students working Tuesday through Thursday afternoons and all day Friday and Saturday. The new hours will begin April 21.

The students go on spring break next week. During that time, the salon will get an updated look, in Paul Mitchell colors - black and white with a splash of color - Walters said.

Like all Paul Mitchell schools, the Monroe location will work and educate exclusively with its products, and instructors and students will follow an aggressive, on-going educational and cultural development program, according to the company.

Starting June 23, the school is currently taking applications for the cosmetology and nail technology programs. Call Admissions Leader Roberta Zastrow at 214-9100 for more information.

The new owners will be inviting the public to stop in and meet them, the staff and the students, and to take a tour of the facility. More information on Paul Mitchell The School - Monroe can be found at, www.PaulMitchellTheSchool.com.
