MONROE - Looking for a way for your creativity to take off? How about designing a logo for the 2008 Monroe Balloon Rally?

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry wants artists in the area to put their talents to work creating the logo for the rally. The contest is open to anyone who lives or works in Green County.

It's the first time in at least 10 years, and maybe in the rally's 23-year history, that the committee is holding a contest to determine its logo.

"We wanted to involve the community," Chamber employee Patty James said. "This isn't just an event that's put on for the community; it's put on by the community.

"This is an event for the world, and what can local people do to brand it?"

The design should be able to be placed inside a circle the size of a half-dollar coin. The winning design will be used to promote the rally via the official pin and T-shirt.

The words "2008 Monroe Balloon Rally" must appear in the design. The words "23rd Annual" or "Monroe, Wisconsin" also may appear in the design, but no other words can be used.

The deadline for entering a design is March 31. After that, a panel of seven chamber members will judge the entries. Entry forms are available at the chamber, das Baumhaus and the Monroe Public Library.

According to the information sheet, simplicity and originality of the design will be a key to the winning selection. The winner will be announced by April 14.

The chamber's rally committee reserves the right to alter the design if necessary, including redrawing, resetting type or changing colors.

The winner will receive $100 in Monroe money and a free rally T-shirt and pin.
