MONROE - Incumbents and their challengers for local public offices will take their place in order at a candidate forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, hosted by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, 1600 26th St.
Chamber Executive Director Pam Christopher announced the line up last week.
"We will start with the (two) County Board of Supervisors candidates," she said. "That will be followed by the city (of Monroe) aldermen in order of their ward, and finally all three candidates for mayor (of Monroe)."
Green County Board of Supervisors 18th District incumbent Steve Stettler and challenger Robert Gadow will start off the forum. The district comprises Decatur township.
Next in line are Monroe Common Council candidates, incumbent Mark Coplien and challenger Michael Boyce, for Monroe's southeast Ward 3, followed by incumbent Thurston Hanson and Louis Armstrong for Ward 7, downtown Monroe.
Richard Thoman and Michael Rivers, vying for the open west-side seat in Ward 9, will finish up the council segment of the evening.
Finally, the evening will conclude with two-term incumbent Mayor Ron Marsh and his two challengers, former mayor Bill Ross and Tyler Schultz.
Each candidate will be given time for an opening remark and a wrap-up.
Depending on the depth of the question, each candidate will be given two minutes to respond, Christopher said.
The questions will be the same for each candidate, and answered in a round-robin fashion.
Dave Gombosi has been selected as time keeper for the event.
As moderator for the evening, Christopher hopes the forum will finish on time, at 8:30 p.m.
"Candidates like it to stay on time, and citizens like it when their questions get answered, and they can stay anonymous," she said.
Citizens have been submitting questions for the past 10 days.
Christopher said she will go over the guidelines with the candidates just before the forum begins.
Everyone is encouraged to attend so that they can be educated on the candidates' views and know where the candidates for office stand on issues facing our community.
Admission to the forum is free, and the doors open at 6:30 p.m.
