NEW GLARUS - Finishing touches for the roof of the Chalet of the Golden Fleece were recently completed.
Last fall when the roof was replaced, the rocks and logs were removed and the logs were found to be rotted and in need of replacement. The Friends of the Chalet working with village administration found a low-cost source for replacement logs and were awarded grant monies from the New Glarus Community Foundation, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
This award from the Dr. Fred W. and Alice J. Kundert Charitable Fund provided the funding for the log replacement and for the restoration of several of the chalet's windows.
The chalet will be opening on Memorial Day weekend for its fourth season of operation by the Friends Group. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, with additional Sunday hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on festival weekends.
