This photo is labeled simply as Meyer Barber Shop. It is unknown who the men are or when the photograph was taken. Ernest A. Meyer was a barber for 55 years, having shops on Smokey Row and in the basement of the White Block. In 1916 he was a partner in Meyer Brothers Barber Shop with his brother, Paul F. Meyer. That shop was located in what is now the 1200-block of 16th Avenue. Paul was only a barber in Monroe until 1925. Advertisers on the clock in the background include Niles Hartnett Plumbing, Carroll Brothers (agent for Corner Stone Flour), C S Dodge & Son, and G. W. Wilkinson Insurance. Below the face of the clock it says, "Hot Lunch Next Door." A display of Cheese Days buttons is sitting on the left of the counter above a stack of towels. If you can identify either of the men, can give more information about the photo, or have photos and/or information on barber shops in Monroe, please contact Matt at 325-6503 or mfigi48@tds.net.
