Celebrating Our Past: Green County Historical Society
36593a.jpg
This interesting aerial photo of Monroes Square was taken from the east in the fall of 1973. Notice the former Loofbourow Hospital and the armory had been razed, but the Zesto and original Commercial and Savings Bank are still standing. After the Zesto was razed, a new bank, the one now housing Wisconsin Bank and Trust, was built before the original bank was torn down. The building that housed Monroe TV and Pace Setter Shoes was still standing, as were the former Monroe Clinic Pharmacy, Hoffman Dry Cleaners, Monroe Hotel and Bar, and the former Roub animal clinic. Notice that the former Mueller and Mueller eye clinic had not yet been built. Many changes have been made in 40 years.
