ARGYLE - The exact cause of a fire that started in the basement of a home on Old Q Road near the rural Argyle area Wednesday still is under investigation.
Argyle Assistant Fire Chief Gerald Bruehlman said about 15 to 17 firefighters from Argyle, Woodford and Blanchardville responded to the call shortly before 2 p.m. The Times on Thursday incorrectly reported that Wiota firefighters participated.
Firefighters could determine where the fire started, but not what caused it.
Bruehlman said the fire was in the walls, which firefighters had to tear apart to determine if the fire was extinguished.
"There was quite a bit of smoke damage, and a fair amount of damage from the fire, on the north end and on the second story of the building," he said.
The house fire is the second one in five years suffered by the Chris and Amanda Guthrie family.
The family, with three children, was offered the home to stay after the previous fire and eventually became renters of the converted cheese factory.
Chris Guthrie was at work at Craigo Grain Company in Monroe when he got the call about Wednesday's fire.
