DARLINGTON — A buggy driver critically injured in a collision with a car last week in Lafayette County was listed as of Monday morning in fair condition at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
Katie B. Ebersol, 39, Darlington, was ejected from the horse-drawn vehicle and suffered a head injury, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. She was taken first by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, then immediately flown by Med Flight helicopter to Madison.
A hospital spokesperson reported Ebersol’s condition as of Monday morning as “fair.”
The accident was reported at 11:49 a.m. Friday just west of Lamont on Wisconsin 81 near Kathy Lane.
Tyler R. Knight, 19, Janesville, was eastbound when he lost control while negotiating a curve. His 2005 Chevrolet Malibu swerved across the centerline and hit Ebersol’s westbound buggy.
Knight reported no injuries. He was cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control.
The horse pulling Ebersol’s buggy faired “not well” in the crash, said Lt. Theresa Burgess. It was still alive at the scene but was significantly injured and taken to a vet for treatment.
The Wisconsin State Patrol, Lafayette County Highway Department and Darlington Fire Department assisted deputies at the crash scene, along with a paramedic unit from Green County EMS in Monroe.
