GREEN COUNTY - An event hosted by Green County Abuse Prevention and Better Brodhead will focus on the local candidates running for office in the fall election.

The Green County Candidate Forum will be held on two occasions. The first will take place tonight at Blackhawk Technical College in Monroe from 6-7 p.m. The other will be held on from 6-7 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Brodhead Memorial Public Library.

Candidates taking part in the forum include Jeff Wright, Democratic candidate for the 51st State Assembly District and Todd Novak, Republican incumbent representative of the 51st district. Others are Mark Spreitzer, Democrat representative of the 45th State Assembly District; Republican Peter Theron, who is challenging Democrat Mark Pocan for the 2nd Congressional District; and Green County District Attorney candidate Republican Craig Nolen. Spreitzer and Nolen are running unopposed on the ballot.

Novak will not be attending the forum in October. However, Independent Phil Anderson, a candidate for the United States Senate, will be present.

Kathy Comeau of Better Brodhead said the forums will have different subjects.

At Blackhawk Technical, the agenda calls for experts on domestic violence and sexual assault taking 5 minutes to present on the topics before turning to county candidates for questions. Once the professionals have posed their quandaries, the public audience will be allowed to ask candidates about the subjects as well.

In Brodhead, the focus of the presentations will be alcohol and drug abuse. Experts will speak on the topics for 5 minutes before turning the heat on the candidates, and then public attendees will also be allowed to ask questions.
