What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?

As of late, school safety is at the forefront of all our minds. As a District, we must continue to work to provide a safe educational environment for staff and students. This includes maintaining a secure building, as well as essential elements of education and preparation for staff and students.

The achievements of NGSD illustrate the commitment that the staff, students, and community share. With those successes, come additional challenges. Increased enrollment creates space needs in a time of funding constraints. Communication with NGSD stakeholders has been critical to understanding areas of need that are affected by the budget. A community survey was recently utilized to collect valuable feedback and data. While NGSD works diligently to remain fiscally responsible, it is vital that we continue to provide the best for students and staff. Both short- and long-term plans, addressing construction/additions and improvements to facilities are critical to future planning.

Continual growth is a priority in the educational process. The District strives to implement curricula that reaches all students, preparing students to be college and career ready. Evaluation of our curricula allows admin/staff the ability to measure outcomes and make changes to best serve our students in the instructional setting.

What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?

NGSD has inherited a fortunate challenge with increased enrollment. This is a positive reflection of our district and community. However, as mentioned above, our physical spaces are stretched. Changes to the building configurations have already occurred in attempt to spread out across the district, and to continue to put students first. This issue is intricately connected to funding and facilities. I hope to be a part of discussions that includes future plans that will address all three topics.

Technology is an ever-evolving and complex key issue in schools. It is imperative that NGSD remains current with technology systems and instructional strategies that provide high-quality and relevant tools to our students and staff. Our budget must allow for NGSD to enhance and upgrade technology as needed.

It is important to create an NGSD brand, exemplifying a high level of quality across all educational areas. An immensely valuable component of that brand is our educators and support staff. NGSD must continue to be able to recruit and retain the best faculty and staff for our district. In order to continue facilitating both district and student success, we must invest in our instructional and support staff.
