What are the top issues facing this district and how would you work to resolve it?
The biggest challenge the Juda School District faces is declining state funding. We have excellent staff who continually find creative ways to stretch the funding received and look for new ways of funding. One of my goals as a board member is to maintain an adequate budget for our outstanding school district while also trying to minimize the tax burden on the surrounding townships. One way to aid in this is by ensuring that all school district financial practices are transparent.
Another significant issue at Juda is the ever changing state standards mandates on what to teach and how to report student achievement. We as a school board need to be aware of these issues and adjust the school's policies to reflect current legislation while maintaining an atmosphere conducive to preparing our students for the future whether that includes higher education or vocation.
What are other key issues facing the district, and how would you work to resolve them?
Several other initiatives I would like to work on include ensuring there is adequate and open communications between the administration/staff and the community; ensuring our policies reflect our current practices; insurance; and revitalizing the Big on Character campaign; maintain a focus on core education; maintaining the excellent facility; re-establishing a Green Team to tackle problems such as recycling, energy efficiency, nutrition, environmental health, transportation.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I am proud to do my part in maintaining the Juda School with its small class size, friendly family environment that allow each student to participate in all of the offerings of the school including AP classes, FFA, forensics, music, sports, and STEAM activities. I plan to continue a good working relationship with other board members, the administration, staff and community.
