What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?

The top issue facing our school system is common to all school districts; finances. I feel the Brodhead Schools offer great strength in the opportunities that our students have in the classroom, and in our extra and co-curricular activities.

With state funding being what it is, we have to be very strategic in how we choose to spend our money. There is no room for error. I believe our tax dollars are being spent efficiently. The budget has been streamlined, and with the generous support of the community and strategic planning, our buildings and programs are currently being maintained. I'd like to continue to be a part of that.

We are a small school system doing things in a big way.

What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?

Other key issues facing our district include hiring and keeping quality educators. It is important to have the best as we prepare our students for their futures. Technology updating is also an issue as it is in constant need of updating, and with the updating comes expense. We have to work to provide the best we can for our students so that they are competitive with other students elsewhere who are striving for the same things.

With aging buildings, it is important to maintain them. It cost a lot of money to maintain an older building. We must keep our community informed about the needs of our district, including the care and upkeep of some aging infrastructure.

Our community is proud of its school system, and I will continue to work to maintain that pride and trust. Communication is key in letting parents and community know what is going on in the school district; at all levels.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I have appreciated being on the school board for the past three years and feel I have much still to learn and to give. I feel with my background as an educator, with over 20 years right here in Brodhead; and as a parent with three children who graduated from the Brodhead School System, I believe I bring a different perspective on issues that the board is responsible for. I see myself as a representative of the community and of education and would like the opportunity to be able to continue.

I would very much appreciate our community's vote on Tuesday, April 4th.
