What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
Government funding is constantly dropping; however, expectations and demands are on the rise along with the cost of operating a school district continually increasing. Darlington has a long tradition of offering top level resources in a small school atmosphere and I would work to make sure we are able to continue that tradition.
I would work to communicate with the public on the ever changing needs of the district to make sure they are aware of where the tax dollars are going and how they can get involved if they'd like to help.
Long range planning for future updates and renovations in our district. It's in the best interest of our taxpayers if we can come up with a long range plan and work with each other on ideas and concepts. As resources become limited it's going to be very important to reach out to friends and alumni for assistance in our future projects. Redbirds have always shown an overwhelming capacity of willingness to give back and we will have to depend on them for support.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
Retaining and recruiting qualified educators, coaches and leaders is going to be very important. We are losing a lot of experience and sources of excellence this year and again in the coming years. It's imperative that we find individuals who will bring the same level of dedication we have come to expect from our staff.
Adapting to the increasing enrollment in our district over the next few years will be very important and the needs of our staff, students and community necessities will constantly be changing. It will be vital for the lines of communication between the State, other schools with increasing enrollment and our local governance to make sure we are adapting to meet the standards.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
The decisions made by our board have lasting impacts on our teachers, students and taxpayers. I believe I can be fiscally responsible, keep our district transparent and hold high standards of accountability to our entire district. I will work hard to make sure the education of our youth is always at the forefront. I'll ask the hard questions and I'll answer the hard questions. I promise to make sure I do what's best for the kids at all times. My door will always be open.
