What are the top issues facing this district/board/office and how would you work to resolve them?

Our top priority needs to be jobs. Rock County is still struggling to replace the 5,000 jobs lost when General Motors closed their Janesville plant. We need to aggressively pursue businesses that are willing to relocate here and encourage new startup businesses to locate here. Startups and small business create three million new jobs per year in the United States. (U.S. Dept. of Labor)

What are other key issues facing the district/board/office, and how would you work to resolve them?

We need to continue to eliminate government fraud and waste in Madison. We also need to re-educate and retrain our workers for the jobs of the 21st century. On the local level we need to keep decisions in our schools between the parents and the teachers while maintaining as much local control as possible. Each city and town is unique and I believe the best decisions will be made there.

Rock County also has a heroin problem that we need to address on several fronts. Enforcing the law is a start but we also need prevention programs to redirect young people. We need recovery programs to deal with these offenders.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I have over 30 years of experience in business. I know what businesses are looking for when they expand and relocate. I have worked in several different industries including cable TV, computers and software. I have done a number of startup businesses including building the first cable tv system in Monroe and Brodhead (Total TV in 1985). My education, background and, most of all, my experience make me the best qualified person for this job. Nothing will change in Madison until we change our legislators.
