What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
Our top issue is in regard to the financial status of the school. The way schools are now funded has had a detrimental impact on rural schools. We need to work together diligently to sustain a responsible budget along with maintaining our school with quality educators and giving the kids every opportunity they need for an excellent education.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
Open enrollment is a key issue for Albany, as it is with many schools. We need to ensure our school is marketable so families want to bring their children to Albany. Our school's reputation is also crucial in attracting and retaining valuable educators. A strong school will help continue a strong community.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
My experience working with the Albany School for over 29 years as the District Bookkeeper has provided me with a lot of understanding on school funding, the budgeting process, etc. that many others have not had an opportunity to work as closely with. I have a vested interest in seeing our school succeed and believe my knowledge would benefit the school board. My husband, myself and our children all graduated from Albany and I currently have family attending there. I've seen the opportunities that rural schools can give our students and want to work to ensure others have the same opportunities my family has been given.
