MONROE - There are a number of issues and races on the ballot Tuesday for voters in Green and Lafayette counties.
There are races for mayor, county board supervisors, school boards and cities. In addition, there are referendums asking voters to exceed to state-mandated property tax revenue caps in the Brodhead and Black Hawk school districts.
Monroe
Three people are campaigning to be Monroe's mayor. Two-term incumbent Ron Marsh is being challenged by former Monroe mayor Bill Ross and Tyler Schultz.
In the race for city council, three incumbents have challengers. In Ward 3, incumbent Mark Coplien faces by Michael Boyce; in Wasard 5, incumbent Thurston Hanson is challenged by Louis Armstrong; and in Ward 9, Richard Thoman and Mike Rivers are running for the open seat left vacant by Kent Kallembach.
First Ward Alderman Neal Hunter and 5th Ward Alderman Charles Koch are running unopposed.
Green County Board of Supervisors
All board supervisors are up for election this year. Two of the positions, District 19 and district 29, have no candidates. People are able to write in candidates for those seats. The people with the highest vote totals will be contacted by the Green County clerk to determine if they want to serve on the board. The people with the most votes are able to decline the position.
There are two candidates running for the District 18 position. Steve Stettler, who has been a board member for 14 years, is being challenged by Decatur Town Board Supervisor Robert Gadow.
Albany school board
Five candidates are running for four positions. The candidates are: Carrie Anderson, Fairy Elmer, Mike Marean, D. Fred Johnson and Jason D. Lindgren.
Argyle school district
Caroline Rossing is running unopposed for the school board.
Brodhead school district referendum
Voters are asked to allow the district to exceed the state-mandated property tax revenue caps by $393,000 in 2010-11; $567,000 in 2011-12; and $797,100 in 2012-13.
Black Hawk school district referendum
Voters are asked to allow the district to exceed the revenue limits by $700,000 for the 2010-11 school year and $800,000 for the 2011-12 school year and thereafter.
Juda school board
Carrie Mann, Joanne Salzwedel and Russell Whitney are running for three positions.
Belleville school board
Paul O'Connor, Roger Hillebrand and Gary Francois are running for three board seats.
Monticello school board
Travis Zimmerman and Randall Smith are running for two positions.
Black Hawk school board
Jason Rupnow and Donielle Wellnitz are running unopposed for Area 1 and Area 3 respectively. There is no candidate in Area 5.
Brodhead school board
Incumbents Peggy Olsen and Carol Kloepping are being challenged by Allen Schneider and Paul Donovan.
Pecatonica school board
Mary Massey and Richard Rolfsmeyer are candidates for three open seats on the board.
Monroe school board
Les Bieneman, Laurie Genz Prien, Brian Keith and Scott Schmidt are running for four positions.
New Glarus school board
Mary Ann Oemichen is the only candidate for two positions on the board.
Brodhead
Mayor Doug Pinnow is running unopposed, as is Municipal Judge Roger Searls.
