MONROE - If you always have wanted to perform on stage, or if you already are an established performer, then don't miss your opportunity to audition for a part in the Monroe Arts Center's 2010 Showcase of Talent Variety Show.
For a 12th consecutive year, the Monroe Arts Center will host the annual event that gives area talent in the performing arts a chance to showcase their skills. Open auditions for this variety show will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Monroe Arts Center, located at 1315 11th St. in Monroe.
Any interested individuals with performing arts talents are encouraged to audition. Auditions are open to adults and children, as well as any size group. The Showcase director and selection panel will specifically be looking to include entertainment of all types in the genres of music (popular, jazz, folk, orchestral, chamber, solo, etc.), theatre (musical theatre, general, ethnic/folk, opera, etc.), dance (jazz, ballet, modern, ethnic/folk, etc.) and comedy (stand-up, skits, etc.). Unique and out-of-the-ordinary acts are encouraged to audition.
The Showcase of Talent variety show is a non-scripted show. All performers are required to audition their act in full, up to a maximum of six minutes in length. In addition, performers are expected to wear their performance attire or costume for their audition. Those individual or acts not wearing appropriate performance attire or costumes will forfeit their audition slot. Those acts and performers selected to participate in the Showcase are required to attend two mandatory technical rehearsals scheduled at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, and Thursday, Jan. 28.
The 2010 Showcase of Talent performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29 and 30, 2010, in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. General admission tickets for this event are $10 and are available for sale at the Monroe Arts Center box office.
