DARLINGTON — A Mineral Point woman was sentenced earlier this month in Lafayette County Circuit Court to 18 months in prison for her fifth drunken driving offense.

Rachael Marie Burmeister, 42, was also ordered at her sentencing June 18 to spend three years on extended supervision and three years on probation, with conditions that she not drink or go into bars and complete alcohol and drug treatment.

Court records indicate Burmeister has also gone by the names Rachael Walton, Rachael Dunlavy and Rachael Keene.

She pleaded no contest in April to a Class G felony charge of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated and a Class I felony charge of fleeing or eluding an officer, as well as a misdemeanor charge of tampering with or failing to install an ignition interlock device. Other charges including driving with a revoked license were dismissed.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer saw Burmeister’s truck in a field off County O at Copeland Road in the Town of Shu-llsburg on Nov. 16. When the officer turned on his flashing lights, the driver drove up an embankment and sped away, reaching speeds of up to 70 mph.

The truck then struck a tree, went through a backyard and came to rest in a cornfield.

After Burmeister and a passenger were in custody, the officer observed Budweiser and Bud Light beer cans on the floor of the driver side of the vehicle. Burmeister smelled strongly of alcohol, the officer reported.

Later, at a hospital, Burmeister admitted to being drunk but said she wasn’t driving.

Burmeister was previously convicted of OWI in December 2008, May 2010, October 2014 and September 2016. For the 2016 conviction, her fourth, she was sentenced to nine months in jail.
