JUDA - Juda school district residents approved a 2 percent budget decrease for the 2010-11 school year at the district's annual meeting Monday.
The 2010-11 budget is about $4.4 million. It represents a $91,645 decrease, or 2 percent, from the $4.48 million budget for 2009-10.
District bookkeeper Pam Green said the decrease was due to the fact the district didn't hire an additional special education teacher and elementary school teacher for the upcoming school year.
The tax levy, or the total tax amount district residents will pay of the 2010-11 budget is about $1.27 million. The levy increased about $12,000, or 1 percent, from last year's levy of $1.26 million.
The new tax rate of $12.18 per $1,000 of equalized property value, is up 12 cents from last year's $12.06. That means a Juda school district resident with a home valued at $100,000 will pay $1,218 in school taxes, compared to $1,206 last year. A farm valued at $300,000 would be assessed $3,654 in school district taxes.
The district also learned there are 25 students who open enrolled to leave the school district, while 45 students have open enrolled to enter the district.
The school board will approve the final budget in October. At that time the district will have final enrollment numbers and more information about state aid.
