MONROE — Judge Jane Bucher announced her election campaign today to continue serving all the people of Green County in Branch 2 of the Green County Circuit Court. She will be on the non-partisan April 2025 ballot.
“I have devoted my career to equal justice, improving our courts, and working as part of the criminal justice system to protect children and families, and strengthen communities,” Judge Bucher said. “Every day in the courtroom, the values I was raised with — hard work, fairness, respect for others — guide me. I look forward to the campaign and to continuing my work as a Judge.”
Circuit Court judges oversee a variety of cases, and Judge Bucher has experience in many areas of law including criminal, civil, family, and guardianship cases. Before being appointed as Circuit Court Judge to fill the vacancy created by Judge Thomas Vale’s retirement, she served as an Assistant State Public Defender, handling an extensive caseload for about a decade. Immediately prior to taking the bench, she was a partner at Russell Law Offices, representing clients in criminal and civil cases in courthouses in Green, Lafayette, Rock, Iowa, and Grant counties.
As an attorney, she was instrumental in helping start Green County’s drug treatment court.
Judge Bucher is also deeply involved in the community. Her past service includes volunteering as a board member for Green County Family Promise, a non-profit that serves unhoused families and children and co-founding the Green County MultiCultural Outreach Program. She also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Green County as a Big Sister. Judge Bucher was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the west African nation of Senegal (2006-2008).
Judge Bucher and her husband Ruedi, a cheesemaker, have two sons and live in Monroe.
