BRODHEAD - The City of Brodhead is offering its eighth annual "Tour the Farms" event from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 10.

The free event is open to the public to share the chance to visit, tour and learn about small family farm operations. Each of the farms on the tour is dedicated to small family operation and incorporates a variety of sustainable and value-added approaches to agriculture.

The event will feature Kinkoona Farm, Scotch Hill Farm, Sugar Maple Emu Farm and Opal-icious Honey Farm.

Kinkoona Farm is owned and operated by Suellen Thomson-Link and her children Syon, Acaya and Sundara. The sheep farm is dedicated to a permaculture model, incorporates affordable conservation techniques and produces organic, chemical-free woolen bedding, organic sprouts for restaurants and unusual, artistic vegetables.

Scotch Hill Farm is operated by Dela and Tony Ends, and is an organic CSA family farm growing over 100 types of vegetables for subscription and producing a variety of farmstead goat milk soap made from the milk of their herd of goats.

Sugar Maple Emu Farm, owned and operated by Joylene and Michael Reavis, raises Australia's national bird - the emu. Emus are raised for emu oil and meat products, and the farm also offers a variety of decorated and painted emu eggs for sale.

Opal John operates Opal-icious Honey and has over 50 hives located at Ten Eyck Apple Orchard and surrounding farms. She will have a demonstration hive for viewing and will be available to discuss her honey gathering and to sell her local honey, hand cream and lip balm.

This Family Farm Tour is an opportunity to meet, learn and ask the questions you've always wanted to ask. The farmers have dedicated this day to sharing their farms and experiences with you all.
