BRODHEAD - Brodhead's Fire and Ice Festival is taking place this Friday and Saturday.
There are activities for all ages on both days. The festival will begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday with the lighting of the luminaries around the downtown area. Santa will be available for photos at the Java House from 4 to 6:30 p.m. There will be ice sculpting at 4 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, and fire rings will be there for roasting hot dogs and s'mores. Activities for children between 3 and 12 years old will be held at City Hall from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
Fresh kettle corn will be at the Bank of Brodhead from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until gone Saturday. At City Hall from 4 to 6:45 p.m., free horse-drawn carriage rides are being sponsored by the BID board. A Memorial Christmas Tree will display photos in the City Hall foyer.
An arts and crafts fair will be held at the Bank of Brodhead and at Jui Jitzu across the street from the bank from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. New this year is a Hot Toddy Bar for attendees age 21 and older. All drinks offered will be hot with a Christmas season flavor. The Hot Toddy Bar is a partnership between the Brodhead Chamber and Fibs North restaurant/bar. The Brodhead Kelch Aviation Museum will have a display on the square of an antique 1936 Russell Airplane from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. Also for purchase will be raffle chances for biplane rides.
The second annual Wheels to Prosper Car Giveaway will be held at 6 p.m. on the square, sponsored by Dusty Kubly of Kubly's Automotive.
Tickets for the 50/50 White Gift raffle will be for sale at the food trailer or from people roaming the downtown/parade crowd from 6 to 7 p.m. The winner will be announced shortly after the end of the parade. Sponsored by the Brodhead Chamber, half of the proceeds will benefit Brodhead's White Gift and the other half will go toward one ticket holder who must be present to win. If no one claims the ticket, all proceeds will benefit the White Gift. There will also be a frozen T-shirt contest, where participants will have to thaw a frozen shirt and be the first to put it on. There are 30 frozen T-shirts available, with prizes of $100, $50 and $25.
Animal lovers are invited to enter their "Pets in Costume," and there will be a Cindy Lou Who contest. The decorated pets will be judged outside the City Hall at 6:15 p.m. Cindy Lou Who participants will be judged at the Harvest Moon at 6:15 p.m. Prizes will be awarded. Pets and Cindy Lou Whos are welcome to be in the parade.
A petting zoo will be set up on the square from 4 to 7 p.m., weather permitting.

The parade route will begin at the corner of 10th Street and E. 3rd Avenue, turn left on 1st Center Avenue, then turn left at 12th Street, ending at the Veterans Park area.
