MONROE - The sentencing of a Brodhead woman who was charged with stealing more than $14,000 from a disability advocacy group in late January was delayed for one month and may go to trial if discussion regarding an unspecified amount of immediate restitution cannot be resolved.

Brenda Lee Miller, 49, Brodhead, faces a Class G felony count of theft from a business after a series of incidents in 2016 while serving as treasurer of the Green County branch of ARC.

Miller made six illicit withdrawals from the disability group's checking account at Woodford State Bank in Monroe from August to September of last year. On Aug. 16, Miller withdrew $2,000 from the account. Until Sept. 19, she made other withdrawals from the account in sums ranging from $400 to $5,000.

In total, Miller withdrew $14,100 from ARC's account.

Police were contacted about the unauthorized withdrawals. Security footage at the bank showed Miller making the transactions.

Miller appeared in Green County Circuit Court Thursday with her lawyer, Jane Ellen Bucher. District Attorney Craig Nolen informed Circuit Court Judge James Beer that discussions about money to be repaid to ARC from Miller had been ongoing and an agreement could not be reached.

Nolen added that if the issue could not be rectified by the next scheduled plea hearing in November, a court trial would be scheduled. He added that victims in the organization will be allowed to give testimony during the plea hearing if it does take place.

Miller's next hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 30.
