MONROE - A Brodhead man convicted of sixth-offense drunk driving is sentenced to a year in jail and three years on probation.

Jerry Michael Johnson, 61, pleaded guilty to the Class H felony charge in July and had his sentencing Aug. 26 in Green County Circuit Court.

The charge stems from an arrest Aug. 22, 2013. Court records indicate Johnson was under the influence of alcohol when he hit another vehicle while backing his 1991 Ford Ranger pickup truck near his residence in the trailer park at 1006 21st Street.

He has prior OWI convictions from November 1989, July 1997, October 1999, March 2002 and November 2003, according to court records.

As part of his probation, he is forbidden from consuming any intoxicants and ordered to undergo a mental health assessment and comply with all recommended treatment and counseling. He is allowed to serve his jail sentence with Huber work-release privileges as long as he remains alcohol- and drug-free.
