BRODHEAD - A Brodhead man heard 11 charges in court Monday after two recent incidents during which he allegedly threatened, harassed and assaulted his ex-girlfriend.
Nicholas Tyler Dasko, 18, was charged with two Class H felony counts of false imprisonment, a Class H felony count of strangulation and suffocation, a Class I felony count of substantial bodily harm, two Class A misdemeanor counts of battery, a Class A misdemeanor of publishing private content without a person's consent, three Class B misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and a Class B misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a phone to threaten another person with obscenity.
The first incident took place at about midnight on Thursday when the ex-girlfriend said Dasko met her on Decatur Road near Brodhead, according to the criminal complaint. She said she was hesitant to enter his car, but eventually agreed after prompting.
Once in the car, the two had a disagreement about their relationship and Dasko began driving, reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, according to the complaint.
He eventually braked at the intersection of St. John Road and Wisconsin 104 but continued to yell at her. She told police she felt her only way out of the situation was to take his keys and run away, but while she attempted to grab them, Dasko began to hit her, eventually putting his arm around her neck.
Hitting him back in self-defense, she said she couldn't breathe, but he kept applying pressure to her neck. She eventually grabbed the keys and exited the car but passed out in the ditch. She said she awoke to Dasko yelling at her to get up before he grabbed his keys and drove off. He returned, told her to get in the vehicle and drove her back to her vehicle.
On Saturday, the ex-girlfriend said she was driving in Brodhead when Dasko began following her closely, calling her and telling her to pull over as she drove onto the highway. Near Ten Eyck Road, she said Dasko stopped in front of her before approaching and beating on her window. She rolled down the window, afraid it would break, and he unlocked the door, pulling her out by her shirt to the ground. She said Dasko held her to the ground by her neck. When he calmed down, Dasko followed her to a friend's house before being told to leave.
The friend told police he witnessed Dasko yelling at her that night and during similar incidents in the past.
The ex-girlfriend, unidentified in the complaint, told police Dasko had been harassing her, calling her more than 70 times some days. She said Dasko had called her to tell her that nude photos of her were on Instagram. She said she knew the pictures had only been sent to him. Messages witnessed by police officers from Dasko included name-calling and proclamations of hate.
Dasko told police she was lying about both incidents. He said he asked her to meet on Decatur Road to return her sunglasses and that he never struck her except during an altercation on Thursday during which they grabbed each other's shirt collars in an argument. Dasko denied posting the photos online and said he did not harm her or rip her shirt during an argument Saturday.
Dasko signed a $5,000 signature bond with the restriction he not have contact with the victim, her home or her vehicle. There will be a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Dasko faces a maximum possible sentence of 24 years in prison.
