BROOKFIELD - Founded in Monroe, the Brennan's Market stores sold on Dec. 31 to longtime employee Tim Culhane.

Culhane, 51, a Monroe native and resident of Hartland, would not disclose the sale price.

The sale completes a 15-year succession plan established by Culhane and former owner Skip Brennan, who will stay on board as chairman emeritus.

Culhane began working at Brennan's in Monroe while in high school and later became general manager of its five retail stores in Monroe, Brookfield, Oconomowoc and Madison (2). The company also runs a cheese-cutting facility in New Glarus.

"This solidifies our future," Culhane said of the transition.

Frank Brennan established the company in 1942.
