MONROE - City residents will need to find a new favorite location to procure juicy peaches and other assorted produce and meat items following Saturday, when Brennan's Market closes earlier than expected.

Monroe store manager Cheryl Tertin said though the original closing date was Sept. 30, the company decided to instead close three of its five locations early and consolidate merchandise.

The 75-year-old Monroe business joins four other locations in closing its doors. Owner Tim Culhane announced in July that all five were going to shut down due to a change in consumer habits. The recent shift caused the Brennan's business model to become unsustainable, he had noted at the time.

Brennan's announced the early closures in a newsletter Wednesday that due to "overwhelming response" to the initial closing announcement, the Monroe location, along with Brookfield and the store on University Avenue in Madison, will close Saturday. The Madison store on Watts Road and the market in Oconomowoc will remain open for an unspecified amount of time. Tertin added that she was unsure when the two remaining stores were planned for closure.

Brennan's in Monroe will close at 5 p.m. Saturday.
