MONROE - A house fire Friday morning in the 2000 block of 10th Avenue claimed the life of an 84-year-old Monroe woman, authorities said.

Marian R. Foulker was found dead in a front bedroom, said Police Chief Fred Kelley in a statement.

Fire crews arriving on the scene at about 9:10 a.m. found the house engulfed in smoke, he said.

Once the blaze was brought under control, the victim was located but attempts to revive here were unsuccessful and Foulker was pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The state fire marshall also has been notified, which is routine after such a fire, said Kelley.
