MONROE - Monroe police, along with the Lafayette County and Green County sheriffs' departments, assisted SLANT and at least two other agencies in a drug raid on an apartment building in the 2700 block of 9th Street Monday night, according to Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley.

The raid took place at about 8 p.m. Kelley said the raid was drug-related, but would not specify the type or amount of drugs involved, or who the agencies were looking for.

More than 20 officers from the various agencies searched one apartment inside the complex. As of about 9 p.m., no arrests had been made, Kelley said.

Some of the officers around the apartment complex were wearing riot-type gear.

The raid also included a helicopter from one of the agencies involved, but Kelley would not identify which one provided it. Kelley also declined to name two of the agencies involved because his department was not leading the investigation. Kelley also would not name the agency leading the investigation.
