TOWN OF JEFFERSON - A seventh fatality on Green County roads has been recorded for 2023 - and the third in just the past four days.

According to a press release from the Green County Sheriff's Office, a call came in to dispatch at about 3:21 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, reporting a single vehicle accident with suspected injuries near the intersection of Theiler and Freeport roads in the Town of Jefferson.

Sheriff's deputies, along with the Juda Fire Department and Green County EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that a black 2007 Subaru Impreza was southbound on Freeport Road, where it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, entered the south ditch and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old Monroe male, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County Coroner's Office. At this time, the identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification to family.

The Green County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Green County Highway Department (traffic control). No additional information will be released at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.
