DARLINGTON - Two men were unharmed Wednesday after their boat capsized on Yellowstone Lake.
According to a press release from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, staff from the Yellowstone Lake State Park reported at 1:38 p.m. that a small flat-bottomed boat had capsized with its two occupants clinging to its hull.
Several agencies throughout the area were called to carry out a possible water rescue, but the two men, who Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said were unidentified, were able to swim to shore before first responders arrived on scene. The two then attempted to walk for help before being located by sheriff's deputies and members of the Blanchardville Fire Department.
The men reported that their boat overturned after being caught by a gust of wind while they were fishing. Both men were wearing life vests when the boat capsized.
Although the two men only sustained superficial injuries, they were transported to the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County to be checked for possible hypothermia.
"The response from so many different departments was phenomenal," Gill said, thanking the Blanchardville fire and police departments, Blanchardville EMS, the Argyle Fire Department and the Darlington Fire Department for their responses to the incident.
