MONROE - A man found passed out drunk and armed with a handgun behind the wheel of his running pickup truck in Brodhead faces misdemeanor charges filed Nov. 22 in Green County Circuit Court.
Adam J. Pinnow, 28, Blanchardville, is charged with operating a firearm while intoxicated and second-offense counts of operating while intoxicated and operating with a prohibited blood-alcohol level. His initial appearance is Dec. 14.
The charges stem from an arrest shortly after midnight Oct. 8 on the frontage road at 25th Street in Brodhead.
According to the criminal complaint, police found Pinnow sleeping behind the wheel of his running 2006 Dodge truck. The truck was parked on grass by the road. Officers had to yell and knock on the truck's window to rouse Pinnow.
When he finally woke, he rolled down the window and said he was home. His speech was slurred and his eyes red and bloodshot.
"I told Mr. Pinnow he was not at home," an officer at the scene later wrote in a report. Pinnow was so incapacitated that he needed help getting out of the truck, the officer noted.
Police located a Smith & Wesson .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun in the truck, along with a cup of alcohol.
Pinnow tried to present his firefighter ID card to police instead of his driver's license and told them he was a firefighter and "we were supposed to support each other," the officer wrote. After Pinnow was arrested and put in a squad car, he "complained about the security belt and handcuffs, saying he was a firefighter and I was treating him like a criminal."
A blood test taken that night showed Pinnow's blood-alcohol content was 0.164 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving. Court records show Pinnow was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2014 in Lafayette County.
