TOWN OF RIDGEWAY — A 55-year-old Blanchardville man died in a crash on Wisconsin 191 near Ridgeway the morning of Thursday, March 6.

Daniel Schutte was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Iowa County coroner Wendell Hamlin, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Sheriff’s Office said Schutte was driving east on 191 just east of Iowa County W just before noon when his car veered off the road and struck a rock embankment.

Dodgeville Fire and EMS, Ridgeway Fire and First Responders, Hollandale Fire, Dodgeville police and the Iowa County Highway Department assisted at the scene.

Wisconsin 191 was closed for about two hours as a result of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Schutte is the third fatality on Iowa County highways this year.

“This has been a particularly difficult year for our county as we’ve experienced multiple tragic incidents,” said Sheriff Michael Peterson.
