BRODHEAD — The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Community Based Coalition Enhancement of Grants to Address Local Drug Crises Grants (CARA Local Drug Crises Grants) program is aimed at the prevention and reduction of opioid or methamphetamine use and the misuse of prescription medications among youth ages 12-18 in communities throughout the United States.

Better Brodhead is one of 65 coalitions nationally, and one of only three coalitions in Wisconsin, to be awarded this grant on June 30, 2021. CARA Local Drug Crises Grants are funded and directed by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) for the day-to-day management of the program.

The CARA grant will be administered through Southwestern WI Community Action Programs, Inc (SWCAP) serving as Better Brodhead’s fiscal agent. The grant is focused on addressing local conditions that put Hispanic youth in Green County at risk for drug use. Project activities include awareness campaigns, bilingual outreach, educational and training opportunities, that improve access and quality of care for this population.
