Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest

someone for the series, contact Marissa Weiher, photographer, at photo@themonroetimes.com.

Terry Goetz of Monroe, who used to own a ribbon and gift shop in Colorado, talks about her best friends Freddy, a 4-year-old orange cat, and Ueli, a 3-year-old champagne-colored cat.

Goetz first got Freddy after rescuing him from her friend's neighbor's backyard. She then brought home Ueli from the Green County Humane Society to keep Freddy company.
Describe Freddy and Ueli's personalities.

Freddy is hesitant. He's very loving in his own way and he can be very exuberant, especially with Ueli. He's just beautiful. I like to say he's emerging. Every year he gets a tiny bit more friendly.

Ueli makes me laugh. He's very, very loving and he's also kind of wild and crazy. They both make me laugh out loud every day. They're so different, but they get along so well and they look beautiful together.

What do you like to do together?

We do a lot of sitting and knitting. One will jump up on my lap, and I'll try to knit around them, then the other will want to get on my lap too. It's just wild. They'll curl up beside me when I'm reading.

What has it been like having Freddy and Ueli in your life?

It has changed my life enormously. They give you stories to tell. It just makes it fun. You learn to relax about messes, scratches and the hair and all that stuff, because it's not nearly as important as you think.
