Ryan Strunz, an English teacher at Monroe High School, talks about his best friend Georgia, a 2-year-old redbone coonhound.

Strunz adopted Georgia from the Coulee Region Humane Society in La Crosse, where he and his wife, Libby, previously lived.

Her adopted name was Fern, but they decided to call her Georgia after Libby's grandmother.

Describe Georgia's personality.

She is a goofball; very energetic, very loving, very protective, especially of Libby. She's smart but not always obedient. She likes chewing on antlers and chewing on her sisters (two cats). She needs to be within a 10-foot radius of us at times. When I was on the roof hanging Christmas lights, she decided she needed to chew her way out (of the house) to save me, and we had to replace our window panels.

What do you and Georgia like to do together?

We like going on walks. We like to wrestle; she's a big wrestling fan. We like to bark at the neighbors together. She's a cuddle dog. She likes watching TV with us.

What has it been like having Georgia in your life?

All-around 100 percent great. It improves every facet of my life. She's a stress reducer. It's nice to have someone excited to see you when you get home no matter what.
