Margaret Huber, a composition customer service representative at RR Donnelly, talks about her best friend Annie, a 15-year-old blue heeler and border collie mix.
Huber adopted Annie in 2004 from the Green County Humane Society, where she had been volunteering as a dog walker. Huber fell for Annie soon after she met her. She brought Annie home with the intention to give her to her niece, who had been looking for a dog, but in the end, her family decided she had become too attached to give her up.
Huber took Annie to visit the people at Pleasant View Nursing Home, including Huber's mother while she was there.
"How she's lived this long, I don't know," Huber said about Annie. "She's so friendly to everyone."

Describe Annie's personality.
She listens like a person and has always been very obedient off-leash. When she was younger, and when someone would come to the house she would be crying like a banshee because she was just so excited to see people. Every now and then, the puppy in her will still come out. She's a very sweet dog and has never given us any trouble. She's never jumped on the furniture or anything like that. We like getting down on the floor with her and give her attention. Everyone who meets her, loves her, and she's met a lot of people. Everyone tells us we did a good job training her, but the thing is, we never trained her.
What do you and Annie like to do together?
She loves to go walking at the Verona dog park. I used to take her to the dog park by the airport twice a day, and I think she misses it and I do, too. She loves to go to Madison to visit her dog cousins. We like just being outside. She likes just sitting on the front porch, and she also likes going for car rides.
What has it been like having Annie in your life?
She keeps me active. She is always loving and happy to see me, even when she's not feeling good. She's always very perky. She has just been a very loyal companion. There is a joke that reminds me of Annie: If you take your dog and your wife and stick them in the back of the trunk of your car and you open it up, which one is happy to see you? And that would be Annie.
