Isabella Carus, a homeschooled high school senior, talks about her 2-year-old best friends, Tesla and Daisy, teddy bear breeds, which are a mix between a bichon frise and a shih tzu.
Carus always wanted dogs since she had one when she was 5 years old, and they couldn't keep it because she and her dad were too allergic. Prior to getting Tesla and Daisy, Carus did research and found a breed that would be hypoallergenic. She brought black-and-white Tesla home first from a breeder a couple hours away, and a few months later brought home white Daisy.

Describe Tesla's and Daisy's
personalities.
Tesla's scared of the dark. He won't even go up or down the staircase if it's dark. He's very protective of Daisy. He's named after Nikola Tesla, the physicist, because he acts like a little nerd. He loves to play and sometimes he'll kick your feet with his back legs. He's used to playing by himself since we had him before we got Daisy, so he'll throw his hedgehog toy into the air and catch it. It's funny to watch.
Daisy is ditzy. She walked off my bed a lot when I first got her. It was hilarious to watch because she would act like nothing happened, like a cartoon.
They're both really sweet and good at figuring out if someone's upset and trying to make them feel better.
Daisy likes to bark at people, I don't know why. She's also very protective of Tesla. We should probably socialize them more. Daisy loves to sit on top of the couch because it has a high vantage view. She'll hide under the blankets like she's in a cave. Tesla won't. He also doesn't like to cuddle, but he likes attention. They're both terrified of water, so bath time is fun.
What do you like to do together?
They love walks. I like it if the weather's nice. We like cuddling, watching TV and playing fetch. I have to hold Daisy to play fetch with Tesla so she doesn't jump on him.
She likes playing tug-of-war. It's funny watching them do laps in the house.
Cuddling with them is the best thing ever because they're so warm, except in the summer.
What has it been like having Tesla and Daisy in your life?
Very amazing. They've become a big part of our family and have definitely had a good impact on us.
