Best Friends
Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest someone for the series, contact Shari Rampenthal, assistant editor, at srampenthal@themonroetimes.com.
Bobbie Thomas, who works for the call center at Colony Brands, talks about her best friends, cats Purrmeister, 12, and Sasha, 4, and dog Lady Mae, an 8-year-old black Lab and border collie mix.
She got Purrmeister - Purr for short - about 11 years ago, after looking for a cat at the Green County Humane Society.
Sasha, who Thomas is holding in the photo, joined the family about a year ago. Thomas and her husband, Ariel, had been looking for another cat after losing a previous one, so that Purr wouldn't get lonely.
Lady Mae, who wasn't in the mood to sit for a portrait, joined the family when she was 6 months old, after Thomas and her husband met her at the humane society and fell in love.

Describe your pets' personalities.
Purr is just a sweetie. He likes everyone. We come home all the time and the kitchen cupboards will be open because he likes to open them to make sure there isn't anything in there. We decided to adopt him because he was so sweet, and he got along with the other cat we had and he loves to play.
Sasha loves to play and cuddle. He loves other cats. When we first brought him home, he was rubbing on the dog in less than a week like 'This is my dog.' Every once and a while he gets frisky and runs around. He's a crazy guy. He was almost 15 pounds when we got him so he's lost some weight.
Lady Mae is stubborn. She's very smart and extremely protective. It takes her a while to warm up to people. She hates water. If it's raining outside, forget about it, she won't go outside. When we give her a bath or clip her toenails you would think we were torturing her.
What do you like to do together?
We like to take Lady for walks. We've been thinking about getting a cat stroller for the cats. The cats like to cuddle together and sometimes wash each other.
What has been the best part of having them in your life?
The companionship. You can be the jerkiest jerk, and they'll still love you. We're both raised on farms and used to having cats and dogs around. ... They've got such personalities, and they've been a parade. Especially when Sasha got here, they've become a little family.
