BENTON — A 37-year-old Benton man faces 17 charges after a seven-hour-long police standoff Oct. 12-13.
Anthony J. Lucey made his first Lafayette County Circuit Court appearance Wednesday on two counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, two counts of intentionally pointing a firearm at someone, two counts of disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon, resisting or obstructing an officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous-weapon — domestic abuse, stalking, failure to comply with an officer while being taken into custody, harassment with use of a dangerous weapon in violation of an injunction causing fear of death — domestic abuse, intentionally pointing a firearm at someone — domestic abuse, disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon — domestic abuse, and four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
Lucey’s preliminary hearing was held Tuesday.
Lafayette County 911 received a report of a man being disorderly at the intersection of Main Street, Temple Avenue and Galena Street Oct. 12 around 7:50 p.m. The second call reported that the man had a gun, the Sheriff’s Office said.
When authorities arrived Lucey returned to his home and refused to cooperate with them, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was arrested Oct. 13 around 2:40 a.m.
Lafayette and Jo Daviess county sheriff’s deputies and Hazel Green and Galena police were joined by the Multi-jurisdictional Emergency Response Team with Lafayette and Green county deputies, Monroe police officers and law enforcement negotiators. Benton Fire and First Responders and Hazel Green EMS assisted law enforcement.
Seven residences near Lucey’s house were evacuated during the standoff.
The incident is under investigation.
Lucey had a status conference in Lafayette County Circuit Court Wednesday on a charge of making harassing, threatening or obscene computer messages — domestic abuse for an incident March 20, and a disorderly conduct charge from an incident June 7. Another status conference is scheduled for Nov. 19.
