BENTON — A 37-year-old Benton man was arrested after a seven-hour-long police standoff Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Anthony J. Lucey was arrested around 2:40 a.m. Charges had not been filed as of Monday morning.
Lafayette County 911 received a report of a man being disorderly at the intersection of Main Street, Temple Avenue and Galena Street Sunday around 7:50 p.m. The second caller minutes reported that the man had a gun, the Sheriff’s Office said.
When authorities arrived Lucey returned to his home and refused to cooperate with them, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Lafayette and Jo Daviess county sheriff’s deputies and Hazel Green and Galena police were joined by the Multi-jurisdictional Emergency Response Team with Lafayette and Green county deputies, Monroe police officers and law enforcement negotiators.
Seven residences near Lucey’s house were evacuated during the standoff.
Benton Fire and First Responders and Hazel Green EMS assisted law enforcement.
The incident is under investigation.
Lucey has a status conference in Lafayette County Circuit Court on Wednesday, Oct. 15 on a charge of making harassing, threatening or obscene computer messages — domestic abuse for an incident March 20, and a disorderly conduct charge from an incident June 7.
