TOWN OF BRIGHAM — A 47-year-old Belleville man died in a crash on U.S. 18/151 near Barneveld Friday afternoon, April 19.

Luke MacLean was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iowa County coroner.

According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, MacLean was driving west on 18/151 near Iowa County K around 12:05 p.m. when his pickup truck rear-ended a tractor—trailer driven by Ranjit Singh, 39, Winnipeg, Manitoba, which had just turned from County K onto 18/151.

Singh was not injured.

Westbound 18/151 was closed for about 4½ hours during the crash investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Barneveld, Mount Horeb and Ridgeway Fire, Barneveld and Dodgeville EMS, the Iowa County Highway Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

MacLean is the fourth fatality on Iowa County roads this year.

“This intersection has been the site of numerous serious incidents and continues to be a known danger for motorists,” said Sheriff Michael Peterson in a news release. “It is imperative that corrective measures be taken to improve safety before more lives are lost.”

Peterson said drivers should avoid the 18/151/K intersection and use the 18/151/Iowa County HHH interchange (exit 58) instead, “which provides a safer, controlled access point to U.S. 18/151. Your safety — and the safety of others on the road — depends on making smart driving decisions like using Exit 58 in these high-risk areas like this one.”
