MONROE - The Bel Canto Singers of Monroe, directed by Allen Redford, will present their annual spring concert on Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m. at the Monroe Arts Center Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall.
The Bel Canto Singers, founded in 1979, is a group known for its lush harmonies and artistic interpretations of choral works - and their Christmas and spring concerts are highlights of the seasons.
This year, the concert will feature a special collaboration between Bel Canto and Ancora String Quartet, along with Freeport pianist and composer Patrick Beckman, as they perform "Easter Mass."
Beckman's "Easter Mass" was first performed at the Vatican in 1996 by the Highland Chorale, which was also directed by Redford. This selection was composed for choir, string quartet, and piano.
Ancora String Quartet is based in Madison.
The members have studied at some of the leading music schools in the country, including the New England Conservatory of Music, the Eastman School of Music, the Indiana University School of Music, and the University of Texas-Austin.
They have attended numerous chamber music festivals and performed across the United States and Europe.
The four players have well-established individual musical careers as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral players. They perform constantly in Madison and beyond, appearing regularly in such ensembles as the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Oakwood Chamber Players, the Madison Bach Musicians, and the Bach Collegium of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Their concerts have been praised for "refined skill, disciplined ensemble playing and joyous conviction."
The public is invited to this event, which will be held in the newly renovated Gunderson-Stiles concert hall of the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th Street. Admission is $5 at the door.
