Senior Center

OUTDOOR EXERCISE CLASSES 

These classes will be held outside at different locations throughout Monroe. All of the classes are drop-in, and there is a cost for each drop-in session. 

At the Senior Center Parking Lot WEST will be: 

● Men’s Exercise on Mondays and Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. 

●  Balanced Yoga is at 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

● Active 4 Life on Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

● Chair Pilates on Fridays from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Twining Park by North Shelter 

● Yoga is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Twining Park Tennis Courts:         

● Dance Aerobics Strength on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

● Dance Aerobics (Zumba) 8:30 a.m. to 9:15  a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Finally, Water Aerobics will be at Monroe Swimming Pool. Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays at 11 a.m.


FALL EXERCISE CLASSES WILL BE IN THE GYM

Indoor Classes start on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. Please bring a change of shoes to wear in the gym.


Exercise registration

Starting in September, the Behring Senior Center will offer Drop-ins and Punch Cards for all exercise classes. Punch cards and drop-in pricing are available. Because no registration is required, you can try out all of the different exercise classes you want. You can purchase Punch Cards at the Front Desk and/or Wellness Center Desk. You will have to fill out a liability waiver to participate in exercise classes. Call 325-3173 for more information.


CHAIR MASSAGE 

Dates: Fridays, August 6 and 20, September 3 and 17, and October 1, 12 and 22, 2021

There is a cost. Times: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (20 minutes)

Melissa Kieler is a Massage Therapist at Healing Notes here in Monroe. You will pay Melissa directly the day of your appointment. She accepts cash or check. MASKS REQUIRED. If you need to cancel, please call NO LATER than Wednesday prior to your appointment so we can fill your spot with someone from our waiting list. Call (608) 325-3173 to schedule an appointment.


FOOT CARE WITH JULIE

Dates: Tuesdays, August 3, 17 and 24, September 7 and 14, and October 5, 12 and 26 are the appointments that are available for the next 3 months.  Julie does have dates set up for the whole year of 2021 for appointments. Please call 325-3173 to make your appointments now. If you need to cancel, please call us at least 24 hours in advance so we can fill your spot from our waiting list.

There is a cost.

Times: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are around 30 minutes.

Your feet will be soaked, your toenails will be clipped and your heels and other rough areas will be exfoliated. You’ll also get a mini leg and foot massage, as well as a refreshing lemon mist.  


LIBRARY

Senior Center Library is Open back up on the second floor. We want to thank everyone who donated books and puzzles during the pandemic.  We have a table by the elevator for the returned books and puzzles.


TABLE TENNIS

Table tennis (ping pong) will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. Players must wipe down paddles when done, one person has to wipe down the table and ping pong balls.


POOL HALL

Pool players get those pool sticks all chalked up and ready to go!

The pool Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Only six players at a time. No more calling in for appointments. Please call 325-3173 for more information about the requirements to play. 


CARDS ARE BACK

Starting on Monday, August 2, we’ll have card games back at the Senior Center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Some things are new. We are playing for fun, and there are NO PRIZES. Please do not arrive early or stay late. Due to new cleaning protocols, all card games end at 3:30 p.m. Please wash your hands before playing. At this time, NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE BUILDING. Single-serve beverages are allowed. Mondays are Euchre, Tuesdays are Canasta, Horse and Pepper, Thursdays are for 500 and Yass.


BINGO WITH ASTER AND FLIPPO ARE BACK                    

● Bingo is Tuesday, August 10 and Thursday, August 12 at 1 p.m. This event will fill up quickly, so don’t wait to sign up. There is a limit of 24 people, and you can only sign up for 1 day only.

● Flippo will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 27. You must sign up at 325-3173 and you have to bring your own deck of cards.


STITCH ‘N CHAT

Get your needles ready! Tuesday at 9 a.m. Get together to work on knitting, crochet, cross stitch, or other projects.


MOVIE TIME IS NOW 2 TIMES A MONTH.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, August 19 at 1:30 p.m. We will be showing the movie “YESTERDAY”. A frustrated musician whose career is going nowhere wants to give up. After being knocked unconscious, he wakes realizing he is the only one who knows the music of the Beatles. He begins playing their music as his own. 

  The next movie is “QUEEN BEES” on Tuesday, August 31 at 1:30 p.m. Once behind the doors of Pine Grove Senior Community, she encounters lusty windows, cut-throat bridge tournaments and a hot bed of bulling “mean girls”. But Helen discovers it’s never too late to make friends and perhaps a new love. Limit to 20 people per movie and you must call to make a reservation. Call 325-3173 to sign up.


COFFEE AND CHAT BOOK CLUB

Date: Monday, September 13

Time: 10 a.m.

Place: Senior Center Dining Room

Join us for our first meeting. We’ll gather and review a number of book titles and categories. The group will take a secret ballot vote to choose a book, and the Janel Kaiser of the Monroe Library will place an order. Our group will meet monthly on Mondays to discuss the book while enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY CLASS

Date: Wednesday, September 22

Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost: There is a cost.

This class is a refresher of the rules of the road, and it is held in a classroom setting. Please bring your AARP card with you if you have one. You can also check with your insurance company to see if they offer a policy discount when you take a Driver Safety Course. Call us at 325-3173 or stop by to sign up. Limit of 20 people.


BRODHEAD DAY TRIP

Date: Friday, August 20, 2021

Time: 10:30 a.m. – Tour of Kelch Aviation Museum (N2439 Airport Rd, Brodhead

There is a cost.

After the tour we will be going to Sand Burr Family Restaurant for lunch at 6929 County Hwy T. Transportation and lunch are on your own. Limited to 20 participants. Please call the Senior Center to make your reservations today at 325-3173.
