Beer, Bacon, Cheese festival is Saturday

NEW GLARUS - New Glarus will host its first Beer, Bacon and Cheese event from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 9.

Vendors serve craft beer, specialty meat and artisan cheese at the outdoor event in downtown New Glarus. Event wristbands are $25 per person and can be purchased at New Glarus sites including the New Glarus Chamber of Commerce Depot, 418 Railroad St., the New Glarus Visitor's Hut, next to Brenda's Blumenladen parking lot, and the Polkafest tent at 1st Street in downtown New Glarus. New Glarus restaurants will offer special menu items, including cheese stuffed tenderloin with bacon, cheese pie with bacon, mac and cheese with bacon, fudge with bacon, and ice cream with bacon.

Visitors can ride the new Hop On Trolley and tour two museums, the Chalet of the Golden Fleece and the Historical Swiss Village, specialty shops, and the award-winning New Glarus Brewing Company. A free "So You Think You Can Polka?" contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, with prizes awarded to the top three contestants.
