MONROE - Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern recently collected the dollar bills that had been thrown up and attached to its ceiling. The money amounted to $8,288 and was donated to the new Monroe Clinic Hospice Home.

The money from the ceiling has been pledged to the home for the next four years.

"We were very excited when we got the final tally back from the bank," said Chris Soukup, owner.

All of the money is donated from customers who throw the bills up to the ceiling, and, once taken down, the dollars are donated to local charities. In the past, the ceiling has been cleared every two years right after Cheese Days. But after getting so full, they now clear it once a year. Last September, $13,499 was collected over two years, which was split to Habitat for Humanity, Green County Humane Society and Green Haven.
