MONROE - As part of its homecoming celebration, Monroe High School will be having its annual Battle of the Bands at 6:30 p.m. today in the performance gym.
Claire Wyttenbach, chairman of this year's event, said the eight bands participating are more than ever before. Proceeds from every $12 shirt sold will benefit the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy in Nairobi, Kenya. Aisling O'Neill Culhane worked as a volunteer at the nonprofit school, Wyttenbach said, and Ciaran O'Neill Culhane and Wyttenbach wanted to help the KGSA as much as they could.
"In between bands, information will be read about the school and its mission to keep girls off the streets and away from teen pregnancies and AIDS by providing a free secondary education," Wyttenbach said.
Tickets for tonight's even are $5, or $3 with a canned food item.
